Out and about in Stellenbosch
Striking a unique balance between natural beauty, history, culture and food, Stellenbosch is a traveler’s delight.
How can you get the most out of Stellenbosch?
We hope the following list will give you some compelling reasons to come and visit Stellenbosch and make 107 Dorpstraat the boutique hotel to help you make the most out of your trip.
Just ask your helpful host at 107 Dorpstraat. We’ll make sure you see the best of what the town has to offer.
In the meantime, here are a few ideas…
Eating Out
Stellenbosch is a foodie paradise. Whether you’re enjoying breakfast at the Blue Crane and the Butterfly cafe, or heading to the Terroir restaurant on the Kleine Zalze estate for dinner (just to name two of our favourites) it’s very hard to go wrong – and if you let us help you pick, it’s practically impossible. We’ll point you in the right direction, from traditional South African fare to international cuisine, fine dining to laid-back bistros, sidewalk cafes and coffee shops to fast food outlets, down-the-road eateries to local estates.
Go wine tasting
Stellenbosch is full of great wine. Let us book a tasting for you at any one of dozens of local wine estates, or stay in town and take a short walk over to Brampton’s Wine Studio or the Wijnhuis, where you can enjoy great wine and a great atmosphere. If it’s been a long day, you don’t have to choose – just come downstairs to 107 Dorpstraat’s very own wine bar and let us pour you a glass as you watch the town go by.
See some art
Stellenbosch is a mecca for contemporary South African and African art. Seeing some is easy – just walk around the corner from the hotel and up Church Street (Kerk Straat). You’ll see at least half a dozen galleries and shops before you reach the great church at the end. The well-known Rupert Museum is another favourite. You’ll quickly find that art is everywhere in Stellenbosch – even right next door to your hotel in the form of the local Slee gallery.
Take in a show
Stellenbosch is alive with culture. See what’s on at the Drostdy Theatre, the university’s HB Thom Theatre, to see if there’s live music at the Oude Libertas open-air amphitheater, just to name a few. We’d love to help you book something that will make you smile.
Join a walking tour
If you’d like to really soak in the history and the architecture of the town, a walking tour is a great start. Join Stellenbosch on Foot, or let us help you book one to suit your schedule and interests.
Play a round of golf
There are no fewer than 3 beautiful courses right near Stellenbosch. If you’ve planned ahead and packed your clubs, you’re just a few minutes away from Stellenbosch Golf Club, the De Zalze Golf Estate and the Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate, the last two of which also offer great wines. As far as we’re concerned, that’s a win-win – and we’d be happy to help you organise transport to and from the course so you can relax and hit the green.
Explore the Winelands
While Stellenbosch is the crown jewel, the Cape Winelands has a lot more to offer in the nearby towns of Franschhoek, Paarl and beyond. To help you get there to see, taste and explore, we’ve partnered with two local tour operators, African King Tours and African Wonder Tours so that we can arrange great tours for our guests quickly and easily.
